What Does Claiming Your Website on Pinterest Mean & Why Do It?
When you claim your website on Pinterest, you are connecting your main website to your Pinterest business account.
It’s that simple.

There are some key reasons you’ll want to claim your website on Pinterest…
- Your profile picture automatically appears alongside your pin
- The Pin will link to your Pinterest profile
- People will see the option to follow you on Pinterest
- Shows your website as the official source of content on your Pinterest account.
How To Claim Your Website on Pinterest

If you already have your business account set up, go to step 1 below…
Step 1. Go To Settings
In the top right of your screen, click on the dropdown arrow beside your profile picture and select ‘settings’.
Step 2. Select ‘Link To Pinterest’
In the left menu select ‘link to Pinterest’. Then click on ‘claim’ beside websites.
Step 3. Choose How You Want to Claim
You’ll then see a pop up wuth 3 options.
- Add HTML Tag
- Upload HTML file
- Add TXT record
To make your life easy, I recommend using the ‘add html tag’ method. Click on the code in the box and copy it to your notes.
Step 4: Adding the HTML Tag To Your Website
For a self-hosted WordPress website, use the free Yoast SEO Plugin…
- First, install and activate the Yoast Plugin – here’s how to install a plugin if you are unfamiliar.
- Once you install and activate this plugin, go to the left navigation in your WordPress menu and select Yoast SEO/Settings.
- Select ‘site connections’. In the Pinterest section, add the html code you copied in step 3. Then click save.
- Click ‘continue’ and verify by adding your website URL.
- You will then get an email from Pinterest to confirm that your website is claimed.

Note: You can no longer claim an Etsy shop on Pinterest.
How to know if your website is claimed properly
Go back to your profile page and you’ll see your website address with a claimed checkmark to the left of it.
